georgia mass band

Georgia Mass Band was founded in 2016 by 4 men on the campus of Jackson State University. In the spring of 2016 Antonio Alexander, Matthew Buggs, Marcus Cummings, and Elijah Thompson came together to form what was originally Atlanta Mass Band. The first rehearsal began on June 8th, 2016 at Banneker High School. Shontavia James and the Sophisticated Jewels Dance Line then joined and performed with the band. Jeff Sharpe was named the Percussion Director. The band started with only 30 members including the 4 directors.

The following year the band nearly tripled in size garnering support from cities in the state outside of Atlanta such as Macon, Augusta, Albany, Savannah and even Valdosta came to Atlanta weekly to rehearse and perform with the ensemble. To encompass everyone, the name was changed to Georgia Mass Band. Georgia Mass Band was officially recognized by the state and incorporated in February of 2018. That summer the band nearly tripled in size again and became revered as one of the premiere ensembles in the All Star Band Circuit.

Since its inception the band has traveled to Augusta, GA, Montgomery, AL, and Jackson, MS.

We strive to unify musicians throughout the State of Georgia and represent our great state as one of the best in music in the country, by creating meaningful and fun experiences during the summer months.
